"Entrepreneurship,
Innovation, and Technology Commercialization at the UIC College of Business
Administration" University of Illinois Chicago combines its urban location in downtown Chicago with a powerful commitment to diversity and academic excellence. UIC's mission of "access to excellence" stems from combining the opportunity for a university education to a diverse student body with the ability to attract top faculty, who successfully compete for federal research funding. As one of 15 colleges within UIC, the College of Business Administration has the largest undergraduate business program in Chicago. In both its undergraduate and professional master's programs the UIC CBA is building world class programs in entrepreneurship, innovation and new product development, and technology commercialization. The college strategy emphasizes the critical role that entrepreneurship and innovation play in economic growth and strives to prepare its graduates to contribute to economic development in the Chicagoland region. Stefanie Lenway, Dean of the CBA, will present an overview of UIC and the new CBA strategy. Dean Lenway came to UIC in 2005 from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where she was Associate Dean and held the General Mills Chair in Strategic Management and Organization. Together with Tom Murtha and Jeff Hart, she is the co-author of Managing New Industry Creation, Global Knowledge Formation in High Technology published by Stanford University Press in 2001. Stefanie is also currently the president of the Academy of International Business. Rod Shrader, Associate Professor of Managerial Studies at the UIC College of Business Administration, will discuss his vision for the UIC Technology Entrepreneurship Center, a new strategic initiative at UIC that provides MBA students with access to UIC inventions and supports their efforts to commercialize these inventions. Professor Shrader's award-winning research on entrepreneurship has been published in numerous book chapters and academic journals. He has played a crucial role in conceiving and launching successful business ventures in the biotechnology, medical device, and information technology industries. Tim Brunke, the new director of the UIC Innovation Center will talk about his vision for the center. The UIC Innovation Center is a strategic alliance between the UIC colleges of Art and Architecture, Business Administration and Engineering and corporate sponsors. Tim is also Director of Global Sales Operations for the Mobile Device business at Motorola Tim holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois at Chicago and received his MBA from the University of Notre Dame. The luncheon is at noon, at The Tower Club, 39th floor, 20 North Wacker Drive, Chicago. The cost of the lunch and program is $35 for EDC members, $50 for non-members, and there is no charge for EDC Corporate and Sustaining members. Reservations are mandatory.
