The 2007 Rate Relief Act established goals for energy efficiency viewed as historic objectives. This is felt to propel Illinois into a position of national leadership on environmentalism.

In response to the requirements of the new law, ComEd filed a three year plan outlining proposed energy efficiency programs that could reach and assist all customers. These energy efficiency programs will reduce total ComEd customer electricity consumption by a cumulative amount of about 1.2 million megawatts by the middle of 2011. This would equal the amount of electricity needed to power approximately 140,000 homes for one year.

Energy efficiency reduces customers bills and benefits the environment by reducing the amount of power needed by power plants. This in turn should reduce the amount of gases emitted by the power plants.

Tim Melloch has spent over 26 years in various assignments at ComEd. He began his career as a technical staff engineer at Byron Nuclear Generating Station in 1982. After six years at the Byron Station, he moved to the customer service side and then served as a large customer account manager for two years.

For the last eighteen years he has been involved in various aspects of educating and helping ComEd customers be more efficient in their use of energy. He is responsible for implementing ComEd's 2008-2010 Energy Efficiency Plan that was approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission in February 2008.
