"An Update on Chicago's 2016 Olympic Bid"
On June 4, 2008 Chicago was selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the United States Bid City for the 2016 Olympic Games. Chicago's Olympic candidature proposal was submitted to the IOC in Lausanne, Switzerland in February, 2009. During this May and June, the IOC Evaluation Commission will be visiting Chicago and the other candidate cities prior to the selection of the 2016 Host City on October 2, 2009. . What does the Olympic plan mean for Chicago's development? Which neighborhoods will be changed forever? How does it effect the Metropolitan area outside Chicago? Lori Healey was named President of Chicago 2016 in December, 2008. In this role she will oversee the bid's community outreach and government relations activities, Olympic Village development and implementation of legacy programs. Healey has held managerial positions throughout her career. Most recently she was chief of staff to Mayor Richard M. Daley. Prior to that she served as Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development. Previously she was a principal with the Chicago based architecture firm of Perkins & Will where she acted as the market sector leader for corporate, commercial and civic architecture. She held earlier positions with the Department of Planning and Development, with Louik Schneider - a local economic development consulting firm, and served as Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs in charge of Business Development. She has been active in many civic organizations and has received numerous professional awards. The luncheon is at noon, at The Tower Club, 39th floor, 20 North Wacker Drive, Chicago.
