Please join the Economic Development Council on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 for a special luncheon and presentation entitled, "Reinventing, Rediscovering and Rebuilding Manufacturing" presented by Dan Swinney, Executive Director, Chicago Manufacturing Renaissance Council (CMRC).

Manufacturing is the single most important sector of the Chicago area's economy. The industry has the largest positive 'ripple effect' on the rest of the economy. Each manufacturing job creates three more in related sectors. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we work to improve the competitiveness and performance of our manufacturing companies.

Dan Swinney is a tireless advocate of workforce development and the need to prepare the next generation of workers for the high-tech challenges of the manufacturing industry in the 21st Century. Dan will discuss the current state of the industry and will provide an overview of what is currently being done to address the needs of manufacturing and what must yet be accomplished going forward.

Under Dan's leadership, the Chicago Manufacturing Renaissance Council develops and supports policies that contribute to the growth of the high-performance manufacturing economy. By engaging stakeholders from business, government, labor, education and communities, CMRC creates policies that promote strong, competitive companies, high wages, economic investment in communities and long-term value creation for each of its partners.

Starting his manufacturing career on the shop floor as a machinist here in the Chicago area, Dan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and is a regular contributor to manufacturing trade and economic development journals.

The luncheon is a noon, at the Tower Club, 39th floor, 20 North Wacker Drive, Chicago. The cost of the lunch and program is $35 for EDC members and $50 for non-members. There is no charge for EDC Corporate and Sustaining Members.
