"Transforming
Brain Power into Economic Power - Investing in our Entrepreneurial Ecosystem" Join the Economic Development Council on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 for a luncheon presentation by Lorrie K. Heinemann entitled, "Transforming Brain Power into Economic Power - Investing in our Entrepreneurial Ecosystem." Lorrie K. Heinemann, head of the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, has focused on access to capital for entrepreneurs, as well as financial literacy for consumers. In her position she facilitates economic growth for the State. Her Department oversees the regulations of 210 banks, 260 credit unions and the licensing of over 114,000 registered security representatives. Since her appointment, by the Governor in 2003, she has led the State's effort to ensure the safety and soundness of Wisconsin's financial institutions. She serves as Chair of the Governor's Council on Financial Literacy and co-founded and chairs the Wisconsin Angel Network. The Angel Network has been a catalyst for connecting investors and capital to entrepreneurs. Founded in 2005 with the Wisconsin Technology Council, the Angel Network's success was recently recognized as a best practice by the National Governor's Association. It was also highlighted in the August 2008 issue of Inc. magazine. Before her appointment as head of the Department of Financial Institutions, Heinemann spent 18 years in banking and securities. She had started and developed her own company, Wisconsin Investment Consultants, Inc. and then moved to a large regional bank holding company. The luncheon is a noon, at the Tower Club, 39th floor, 20 North Wacker Drive, Chicago. The cost of the lunch and program is $35 for EDC members and $50 for non-members.
