Daniel Marselle, Director On September 14, 2009, the U.S. government awarded $14.6 million in stimulus grants to strapped cities and counties across the country, aimed at attracting private investment to local economies and creating jobs. The largest grant, $4.5 million, went to the University Technology Park at IIT (UTP). This construction grant, one of the largest ever made by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), is to complete a 28,000 square foot start-up technology incubator on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology that will house up to 30 start-up companies. The award will help create new higher-skill jobs and boost private investment in the Chicago region. What
does this grant mean for the university tech park’s future and for
Chicago's economic development? Which industries are most
impacted? What progress has been made by UTP since it opened in
January of 2006? Dan has a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from IIT and UW-Madison, respectively, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. The luncheon is a noon, at the Tower Club, 39th floor, 20 North Wacker Drive, Chicago. The cost of the lunch and program is $35 for EDC members and $50 for non-members.
